Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha formally assumed charge of the Land Reforms and Revenue Department on Monday, vowing to advance the development agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha emphasised his commitment to protecting land in the state, warning the land mafia — along with the liquor and sand mafias — against using illicitly earned money to acquire property. “The government will take strict action against those who engage in unfair practices,” he said.
Sinha, who described himself as a “son of the soil,” highlighted the department’s priority to resolve land disputes, which he said constitute the largest number of cases currently in court. He added that ongoing survey work would be completed and that permanent solutions would be found for pending disputes. “Farmers will be fully assisted in protecting their land, and the department will maintain complete transparency,” he said.
The minister also outlined plans to facilitate land acquisition for development projects, aiming to ensure that the state’s departments have timely access to land required for infrastructure and public services. He reiterated the government’s broader vision of a “developed Bihar,” noting that each department’s needs will be met in line with this mission.
Sinha specifically targeted illegal activities by the state’s mafias, accusing them of purchasing land with the proceeds of sand and liquor rackets. “These practices often lead to crime and will no longer be tolerated,” he said, adding that the government would deal decisively with mafia elements to curb arbitrary actions.
