Bhagalpur: Traffic on the Vikramshila Setu over the Ganges will remain suspended during the nights of July 8 and July 9 to facilitate an inspection by an expert team from IIT Patna for the bridge’s proposed permanent restoration.
According to the Bhagalpur district administration, the movement of all vehicles will be prohibited from 10 pm to 5 am on both nights to ensure the inspection is carried out safely.
IIT Patna Team To Assess Restoration Work
The inspection will focus on the proposed permanent restoration of the bridge, including plans to replace the existing Bailey bridge arrangement.
Officials said the temporary suspension of traffic is necessary to allow the expert team to conduct a detailed assessment without interruption.
Traffic Diversions Planned
The district administration has directed the concerned departments to implement traffic diversions and ensure smooth movement on alternative routes during the closure.
Officials said arrangements have been made to minimise disruption while maintaining public safety throughout the inspection period.
Administration Issues Public Advisory
The administration has appealed to commuters, commercial vehicle operators and transport agencies to avoid using the Vikramshila Setu between 10 pm and 5 am on July 8 and July 9.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes during the notified hours.
Safety Cited As Priority
According to the district administration, the temporary traffic restrictions are essential to ensure the safety of the bridge and facilitate the proposed permanent restoration work.
Officials acknowledged that the closure may cause inconvenience but said the measures are necessary to support the technical inspection and long-term maintenance of the bridge.
