Patna: A 12-year-old Class 8 student, Rajveer Rai, died while undergoing treatment after falling ill at Holy Faith International School near Kurji Gate No. 77 under the Digha police station area, triggering protests by family members and local residents.
Following the student’s death, an angry crowd vandalised the school premises and blocked the Digha-Danapur main road for several hours, leading to significant traffic disruption before police restored normalcy.
Family Alleges Assault by Teachers
Rajveer’s father, Neeraj Rai, alleged that his son was brutally beaten by teachers at the school, causing his condition to deteriorate.
According to the complaint, Rajveer was bleeding from the mouth when his father reached the hospital. Neeraj Rai also alleged that CCTV camera wires at the school were cut after the incident in an attempt to destroy evidence.
School Rejects Allegations
The school administration has denied the allegations made by the family.
School administrator Sudhir Singh said Rajveer collapsed while students were in the playground in the absence of their class teacher. He said the student was immediately taken to a hospital and his family was informed without delay.
FIR Registered
Based on a written complaint filed by Rajveer’s father, Digha police have registered an FIR against school administrator Sudhir Singh, Principal Asha Rai and some unidentified teachers under various sections, including those related to murder and harassment.
Police said the investigation is underway and all allegations, as well as the school’s account of the incident, are being examined.
Protests and Road Blockade
After news of Rajveer’s death spread, a large number of residents gathered outside the school. Protesters allegedly damaged parts of the school property and blocked the Digha-Danapur route for nearly four hours.
The blockade resulted in heavy traffic congestion in the area before police officials persuaded the protesters to disperse.
Post-Mortem Report Awaited
Police said the exact cause of Rajveer’s death will be determined after the post-mortem examination.
Officials said further legal action will depend on the medical findings and other evidence collected during the investigation. The police are examining both the allegations made by the family and the explanation provided by the school management.
