Patna: Patna’s Magadh Mahila College has its student cabinet elections today, with voting beginning at 11.30am and continuing until 1.30pm. Ballots were cast for five posts, while counting and the announcement of results were scheduled to take place the same day.
A total of 21 students had filed nominations for 13 positions, of whom 19 were shortlisted following interviews with the college principal and governing body members. Campaigning was carried out on campus before the vote.
Although students traditionally elect candidates to seven posts, two of them were filled unopposed this year. As a result, polling was conducted for the remaining five posts: treasurer, common room secretary, assistant common room secretary, sanitation and environment secretary, and assistant sanitation and environment secretary.
The contests included two candidates for treasurer, three for common room secretary, two for assistant common room secretary, three for sanitation and environment secretary, and two for assistant sanitation and environment secretary.
The election process began on August 22, with nominations accepted until August 23. Interviews were held on August 25, followed by campaigning on August 26 and 27. The vote, initially scheduled for August 28, was postponed by a day due to examinations.
The oath-taking ceremony for newly elected cabinet members is set to take place on September 1.
