Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has called a second cabinet meeting within the same week, fuelling speculation in political circles about possible policy decisions ahead of elections.
The meeting, scheduled for Friday morning at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Secretariat, comes just four days after the government’s regular Tuesday session. Typically, the state cabinet meets once a week, but the back-to-back meetings are being viewed as a sign that the administration is seeking to accelerate decision-making in an election year.
Officials said several key proposals may be tabled and approved, potentially affecting both the public and investors. The urgency of the second sitting has drawn attention, with observers suggesting that the government is eager to signal its intent to act swiftly on major policy matters.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the cabinet cleared 26 agendas, including the approval of the Industrial Incentive Package 2025. The policy, aimed at attracting large-scale investment to Bihar, offers free land up to 10 acres for projects exceeding Rs 100 crore and creating at least 1,000 direct jobs. Companies investing more than Rs 1,000 crore will be eligible for up to 25 acres, alongside an interest subsidy of up to Rs 40 crore and a waiver of state GST worth up to 300% of project costs for 14 years.
The package is seen as a significant move to boost industry in the state, which has long struggled to attract sustained private investment. Today’s meeting is expected to build on those measures, though details of the proposals remain under wraps.
