Patna: As Bihar prepares for assembly elections later this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Patna on May 29, kicking off a high-stakes campaign with a roadshow and the unveiling of key infrastructure projects across the state.
According to BJP state president Dr Dilip Jaiswal, Modi will arrive at Patna Airport at 5pm and begin a roadshow from Sheikhpura turn to Income Tax Square, passing via the High Court before reaching the BJP state headquarters. To mark his arrival, 32 welcome stages will be erected along the route, where supporters, including women performing traditional aartis, are expected to greet the Prime Minister amid a shower of flowers.
On the morning of May 30, Modi will address a public rally in Bikramganj, where he is also expected to highlight the development initiatives spearheaded by the central government in Bihar. His visit holds political significance, with the state heading toward elections and the BJP keen to consolidate its position.
Beyond the symbolic roadshow, Modi’s visit carries substantial developmental weight. He is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for several large-scale infrastructure projects:
- Inauguration of Patna-Gaya-Dobhi Road: Rs 5,519 crore
- Inauguration of four-lane elevated road in Gopalganj: Rs 249 crore
- Foundation stone of Patna-Ara-Sasaram Road: Rs 3,712 crore
- Foundation stone of Varanasi-Kolkata Road segment: approx. Rs 6,000 crore
- Foundation stone of Ramnagar-Kacchi Dargah route: Rs 1,083 crore
- Buxar-Bharouli Bridge project: Rs 531 crore
- Inauguration of Patna’s new airport terminal: Rs 1,200 crore
- Foundation stone of 2400 MW unit of Navinagar Super Thermal Power Project (Aurangabad)
Modi is also expected to return to Bihar on 20 June, with further announcements and public engagements planned.
Security has been heightened ahead of the visit, with anti-terrorist units deployed as a precaution. The PM’s back-to-back tours signal the BJP’s strategic focus on Bihar, blending political messaging with infrastructure-led outreach.
