Bhagalpur/Patna: Bihar Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra on Monday directed officials to complete the restoration and repair of Vikramshila Setu over the Ganga in Bhagalpur by November 30, 2026, as he reviewed the progress of work at the project site.
During the inspection, the minister assessed the pace of construction and sought updates from officials and executing agencies on the project’s status, quality control measures and adherence to the construction schedule.
November 30 Deadline Set
Kumar Shailendra instructed all agencies involved in the project to ensure that the restoration work is completed within the stipulated deadline.
He said unnecessary delays would not be tolerated and stressed the need for close coordination among all departments and contractors to keep the project on schedule.
Focus On Quality And Safety
The minister directed officials to maintain strict quality and safety standards throughout the restoration process.
He asked engineers to regularly monitor construction materials, technical specifications and on-site work to minimise the risk of future structural or technical issues.

Staging Work Reviewed
The minister also reviewed the construction of the staging structure required for dismantling work on the bridge.
He instructed the executing agency to complete the staging within the prescribed timeline and according to technical standards so that the next phase of the project can begin without delays.
Coordination With BRO
Kumar Shailendra directed officials to coordinate closely with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for the safe removal of the Bailey bridge that forms part of the restoration process.
He said all technical procedures should be followed to ensure the dismantling is completed safely and on time.

Improving Connectivity
The minister said restoring Vikramshila Setu remains a priority because of its importance to road connectivity in eastern Bihar.
He said the completion of the project would strengthen transport links for Bhagalpur and neighbouring districts, improve travel, and provide a boost to trade, transportation and regional economic development.
He also instructed officials to continue regular monitoring of the project to ensure commuters face minimal inconvenience while the restoration work is underway.
