Patna: The Department of Art and Culture, Government of Bihar, in collaboration with Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir, organised a grand cultural programme on the occasion of World Music Day at Hari Uppal Auditorium in Patna on Sunday.
Art and Culture Minister Dr Pramod Kumar inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Senior officials of the department, artists, teachers, students and cultural enthusiasts attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pramod Kumar described music as an invaluable part of India’s cultural heritage. He said music transcends language, region and geographical boundaries, bringing people together through a shared cultural experience.
The minister said the department is continuously working towards preserving and promoting Bihar’s rich musical traditions and encouraging greater participation in cultural activities.
Department Secretary Pranav Kumar highlighted the social and cultural significance of music and arts. He said India’s musical traditions form an integral part of the country’s cultural identity and help connect younger generations with their roots.
Director of Cultural Affairs Ruby, in her welcome address, said music serves as a powerful medium that promotes sensitivity, creativity and positivity. She added that music plays a vital role in preserving cultural values and strengthening social harmony.
Cultural Performances
The cultural programme began with a Kathak-based Shiv Stuti presented by students of the Kathak Department under the guidance of Kumar Krishna Kishore.
A tabla and flute jugalbandi by Shantanu Rai and Mohammad Salim received appreciation from the audience for its musical harmony and technical excellence.
Students of the Folk Music Department, led by Manoranjan Ojha, presented Bhojpuri folk songs including “Mori Jhulania Ke Chhaiyan” and “Amua Madua Ke Jhumi Dalariya”, drawing enthusiastic applause from spectators.
The Music Composition Department showcased classical and light music performances under the direction of Ashok Kumar Prasad. Students from the Instrumental Music Department performed tabla recitals under the guidance of Shantanu Rai and Bablu Mishra.
The Guitar Department students, mentored by Rakesh Kumar Ranjan, presented popular film melodies, adding a contemporary flavour to the evening.
In the concluding segment, students Hitaksh and Harsh from the Classical Vocal Department performed a raga-based khayal recital. They were accompanied on tabla by Aditya Vimal and Himanshu Kumar.
A soulful rendition of a Meera bhajan brought the programme to an emotional close and left the audience captivated.
Vote of Thanks
The programme was directed by Dr Bam Kumari Mishra. Joint Secretary Mahmood Alam delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the guests, artists, teachers, students and audience members for contributing to the success of the event.
The programme was anchored by Soma Chakravarti and witnessed the participation of teachers, students, staff members and a large number of music lovers.
