Patna: The monsoon has weakened in Bihar, leaving most parts of the state, including Patna, dry over the past few days. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in 25 districts. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30–40 kmph.
According to the Meteorological Center, there is no forecast of heavy rainfall in any district for the coming days. Temperatures are likely to rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius, increasing discomfort due to humid heat.
Flood Threat in Several Districts
Meanwhile, the water level of the river Ganga continues to rise due to rainfall in Uttarakhand, creating flood-like situations in several Bihar districts, including Buxar, Ara, Munger, and Begusarai.
In Munger, floodwaters from the Ganga have entered several villages in Dharhara block, forcing residents to evacuate. Many families have moved to safer locations, with the district administration using loudspeakers to alert villagers.
Begusarai has also been hit hard, as floodwaters disrupted road connectivity between Shamho block and adjoining areas of Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Munger. Villagers in low-lying areas are reportedly living in inundated conditions.
To address the situation, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed in affected districts.
Weather Outlook
The Meteorological Center has predicted that Bihar’s weather will remain generally normal till September 10. While light to moderate rainfall may occur, heavy downpours are not expected. Rising temperatures, however, are likely to increase humidity levels, adding to the woes of residents.
