Patna: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in 13 districts of Bihar today, with the possibility of light to moderate showers over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, 26 districts are likely to experience clear skies, leading to humid and uncomfortable weather conditions.
According to the Meteorological Center, maximum temperatures in non-rainfall districts may rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. The monsoon is expected to strengthen again from August 27, bringing heavy rain to parts of East and South Bihar on August 28 and 29.
So far, Bihar has received 27 percent less rainfall this season. Against the normal 741 mm, only 544 mm of rain has been recorded. Sitamarhi has received the lowest rainfall at just 60 percent of normal, while only eight districts in the state have recorded above-average precipitation.
Heavy Rain Forecast in Coming Days
Meteorologists have predicted the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal after August 27, which is likely to intensify rainfall in Bihar. Heavy showers are expected across several districts on August 28 and 29, raising concerns of floods and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Gaya, Nawada, and Nalanda on August 30. Similarly, Gopalganj, East Champaran, West Champaran, and Siwan may witness heavy rainfall on September 1.
Floods Impact Over 17 Lakh People
The flood situation in Bihar remains grim, with 17.62 lakh people affected across 10 districts. Bhagalpur is the worst-hit district, where 4.16 lakh people from 343 villages are reeling under floods.
In Begusarai, 3.15 lakh people in 187 villages have been affected, while 2.55 lakh residents in 168 villages of Bhojpur and 2.50 lakh in 218 villages of Munger are struggling with floodwaters. Vaishali has reported 2.28 lakh affected people, Khagaria 1.40 lakh, Patna over one lakh, and Saran more than 42,000.
The rising water levels of the Ganga and its tributaries may further worsen the crisis. Relief and rescue operations have been intensified by the administration, but thousands of families have already been displaced.
In Nalanda district, the situation has become serious due to the unrepaired embankments of the Lokayan river in Hilsa, Ekangarsarai, and Karaiparsurai blocks. Floodwaters have forced thousands to abandon their homes.
Patna Weather Update
For now, the weather in Patna will remain mostly dry, with day temperatures expected between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius and night temperatures around 26 to 27 degrees. However, rainfall is likely in the capital from August 28 as the monsoon gains momentum again.
