Patna: Patna’s parks are preparing for a major upgrade as the Bihar government moves to improve both public health facilities and safety in the city’s green spaces. The environment, forest and climate change minister, Dr Pramod Kumar Chandravanshi, said the initiative would make parks more user-friendly and secure for residents who visit them daily for walking, exercise and relaxation. With new infrastructure and digital monitoring, the capital’s parks are expected to play a bigger role in everyday city life.
One of the main features of the plan is the construction of yoga sheds in 35 large parks across Patna. These covered structures will allow people to practise yoga throughout the year, without being affected by rain, strong sunlight or cold weather. Parks such as Eco Park, Veer Kunwar Singh Azad Park, Naveen Sinha Park, Punaichak Park, Shivaji Park and others have been selected for the project. Once the sheds are completed, more than a thousand people are expected to use these facilities daily, helping citizens maintain a regular and healthy routine.
Security is another major focus of the project. The government plans to install more than 1,000 CCTV cameras in 110 parks across the city. These cameras will monitor activities in the parks and help ensure the safety of visitors, especially during early morning and evening hours. According to officials, the cameras will also help protect park property and prevent damage to public facilities. All surveillance will be monitored centrally from Eco Park, allowing authorities to respond quickly if any issue arises.
In addition to these changes, the government has prepared a five-year plan to improve basic facilities in parks. The minister has directed officials to ensure there is no shortage of drinking water, clean toilets and proper sanitation. He stressed that parks are not just recreational spaces but an important part of urban living. At the same time, efforts are being made to increase green cover outside the city, with plans to plant more than four lakh saplings along the Patna–Dobhi four-lane road. Fruit-bearing trees will be given priority so that the environment and local communities can benefit together.
