Darbhanga: A claim of 655 duplicate entries in Darbhanga’s electoral roll has sparked controversy, with the BJP’s Booth Level Agent (BLA) raising objections, though the Election Commission has said the complaint was not filed in the prescribed format.
The Election Commission is carrying out a Special Intensive Revision of Bihar’s voter list, during which BJP’s Darbhanga BLA Laxman Kumar alleged that 655 people had their names registered at multiple places. Most of these, he claimed, belong to the minority community, and he submitted a list to the district administration.
The Darbhanga District Election Officer, Kaushal Kumar, clarified that while a list was submitted on August 10, it did not include the mandatory Format-7, which is required for such claims and objections. “Therefore, the commission took cognisance of it as a normal complaint,” he said.
A preliminary investigation found discrepancies in the submitted list compared with the draft electoral roll published on August 1. However, officials have confirmed that a detailed verification is underway, and any confirmed double entries will be removed in line with election rules.
