DPS Patna East hosts Excelsior 2024, a three-day inter-school sports festival
Patna: The three-day inter-school sports festival Excelsior 2024 began with grandeur on Monday, at Delhi Public School (DPS) Patna East. The opening ceremony featured traditional lamp lighting by the chief guest, Amit Prakash, Pro Vice Chairman of the school, alongside Dr Rakesh Alfred, the principal, Vice Principal Ashfaq Iqbal, and Geeta S, the director of primary classes.
The event started with cultural performances, including dance, music, and a parade by students. Addressing the audience, the principal emphasised the importance of sports in building discipline, teamwork, and physical fitness among children. Students took an oath of sportsmanship, vowing to play with integrity and devotion. The chief guest encouraged participants, applauding their enthusiasm and competitive spirit.
The festival has drawn participation from 15 schools, with 568 students competing in football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, and kabaddi events between December 16 and 18. The event aims to instil sportsmanship and provide a platform for students to showcase their physical and collective abilities.
The inaugural day featured a torch relay, lighting of the sports flame, a vote of thanks, and the national anthem to mark the occasion.
Competition Results
Football:
- St. Michael’s High School defeated Litera Valley School 3-0
- Trinity Global School won against Tribhuvan School 3-1
Kabaddi:
- Litera Valley defeated Litera Public School
- Tribhuvan School defeated Litera Public School, Fatuha
- Bishop Scott emerged victorious over Leeds Asian School
Basketball (Boys):
- St. Michael’s High School defeated Tribhuvan School 26-4
- Trinity Global School overcame B.D. Public School 25-6
Basketball (Girls):
- St. Michael’s High School defeated Trinity Global School 12-2
The festival continues over the next two days, promising more spirited competition and opportunities for young athletes to excel.
