Patna: Cold westerly winds continue to grip Bihar, intensifying the chill across the state. According to the Meteorological Center, the cold spell is expected to persist for the next three days, with minimum temperatures likely to drop by 2–3 degrees Celsius.

An alert for dense fog has been issued in 12 districts, while the remaining 26 districts will experience normal weather conditions. Moderate to strong westerly winds are predicted across most parts of the state, adding to the biting cold.

Cold-day-like conditions are expected to prevail until January 20. However, a change in weather is anticipated from January 26, bringing relief from the cold.

Patna’s Weather Today

In Patna, light fog is expected in the morning, with sunny intervals likely later in the day. Lower wind speeds during the day will provide some respite from the cold.

A Dry and Chilly Winter

This January has largely been devoid of extreme cold-wave conditions, apart from a few isolated instances. Notably, January 2 witnessed a cold day in Dehri, Banka, and Vaishali, with minimum temperatures plunging to 4.4°C in Dehri and Banka. January 16 also saw cold-day conditions in Chhapra and Dehri.

Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 9.2°C on January 3, whereas last year, the city experienced its lowest temperature of 5.5°C on January 22.

Bihar has also recorded a significant 99% decline in rainfall during December and January, with only 4 mm expected during this period. The coldest location in the state over the past 24 hours was Rohtas, where the minimum temperature dropped to 7°C.

The extended chill and dry conditions have left residents bracing for more cold days ahead.
