60-70 Rounds Fired at Bihar Strongman Anant Singh in Mokama, Attack Linked to Gangsters Sonu-Monu

Patna: Former MLA and strongman Anant Singh was attacked late Wednesday evening in Nauranga village of Mokama assembly constituency. Gangsters Sonu and Monu fired 60-70 rounds at him while he was visiting the area to address local complaints. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Anant Singh escaped unscathed.

The attack occurred after the gang members reportedly assaulted a family in the village and locked them out of their house. Upon learning of the incident, Anant Singh reached the gangsters’ residence, prompting the brothers to open fire. After the incident, Sonu and Monu fled the scene, leaving the area tense. Nauranga village has since turned into a police camp, with Barh DSP stationed on-site.

Sonu and Monu are notorious criminals from Jalalpur village under Panchmahal OP (Marachi police station). Over a dozen cases, including charges of murder, kidnapping, and ransom, are registered against them. Known for their past involvement in a train robbery in 2009, the brothers later started holding informal courts in the village, gaining influence over local officials while continuing their criminal activities, such as extortion, looting, and contract killings.

Both brothers are linked to Uttar Pradesh strongman Mukhtar Ansari and have an old rivalry with Anant Singh in Mokama. They are allegedly trying to establish dominance in the area by aligning with opposing groups of the former MLA. Despite their crimes, they have evaded conviction with the help of their lawyer father and their ability to conduct crimes without leaving evidence.

Anant Singh, who was recently released from jail on August 16, was acquitted by the Patna High Court in a case involving the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a bulletproof jacket from his residence. With no pending cases against him, he had resumed his public activities before the attack.

Police have intensified their search for the fugitives Sonu and Monu while increasing security in the Mokama area. The incident has heightened tensions in the region, raising concerns about the resurgence of gang conflicts.
