Jamui: The Nagi Bird Sanctuary witnessed the inauguration of the third annual ‘Kalrav 2025’ Bird Festival on Thursday, with Co-operative Minister Dr. Prem Kumar and former Minister Damodar Rawat lighting the ceremonial lamp. The event, marked by cultural programs, bird-watching activities, and departmental presentations, celebrated the sanctuary’s growing prominence as a global birding destination.
Minister Prem Kumar highlighted Nagi’s recent inclusion in the Ramsar site, stating, “Nagi has now spread its fame not only in the state but all over the world. Nagi has made a different identity for itself as soon as it is included in the Ramsar site.” He announced plans for a bird museum and enhanced facilities for viewing Siberian migratory birds, underscoring the sanctuary’s significance as a natural treasure.
The minister emphasized the sanctuary’s role in attracting migratory birds from approximately 30 countries during the winter season, stressing the importance of local conservation efforts. He also noted the ongoing Asian Bird Census program and the state government’s commitment to developing Nagi and Nakati further. “The way the number of tourists is increasing day by day at other tourist places of Bihar. Tourists will also increase in Nagi. A tourist place will be built and the people here will get employment,” he said.
The festival featured cultural programs by local school students and various stalls showcasing bird photography, Madhubani paintings, archaeological information, and local food products. Minister Prem Kumar and other officials inspected the stalls, engaging with participants and learning about their contributions.
The event was attended by Principal Forest Conservator Bihar Prabhat Kumar Gupta, Senior Officer Forest Guard Patna Ekke Dwivedi, Regional Forest Officer Bhagalpur Sukhbir Kumar, and other forest department officials. They discussed the sanctuary’s development and shared their perspectives on enhancing its appeal. Forest Division Officer Tejas Jaiswal and numerous other attendees contributed to the event’s success.
