Sabour : Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, in partnership with the Department of Labour and Resources, Patna, has launched a 50-day residential training programme aimed at equipping rural youth with technical skills in farm machinery maintenance and supervision.
The initiative, conducted under the Bihar Skill Development Mission, is titled Repair and Maintenance Supervisor (Farm Machinery) Domain Skilling 4.0. Led by the university’s Department of Agricultural Engineering, the programme seeks to address the growing need for skilled technicians as the use of mechanised equipment in agriculture continues to rise.
M.K. Sinha, principal of BAU Sabour, described the programme as a crucial step towards enhancing rural employment and fostering entrepreneurship. “There is a growing demand for skilled hands who can ensure the effective use and upkeep of farm machinery,” he said.
Ashok Kumar, head of the Agricultural Engineering Department and training coordinator, highlighted the role of supervisors in maintaining agricultural equipment, adding that well-maintained machinery plays a key part in improving farm productivity.
Pankaj Kumar, a subject matter specialist involved in the programme, delivered technical insights into various farm machines, emphasising that regular maintenance extends the lifespan of equipment and enhances its performance.
Pawan Kumar, from the university’s Horticulture (Fruits) Department and also a training centre coordinator, outlined the operational structure and guidelines of the scheme. He encouraged participants to make full use of the opportunity to secure sustainable livelihoods through technical expertise.
