Patna: CCTV footage captured 15-year-old Khushi, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya Danapur, cycling towards Khagaul’s Saguna Mod around 1:30pm on April 17. Hours later, she went missing, and a day later, her body was found mutilated on a railway track near Abhaypur in Jamalpur — more than 200 kilometres from where she was last seen.

Khushi, daughter of ex-serviceman Amresh Kumar, had left home that morning for school. According to the family, she instead went to a friend’s house and was last seen departing on her bicycle. The family believes this was not an accident. “My daughter was kidnapped and murdered,” her father alleged.

The girl’s body, still in school uniform, was discovered on the evening of April 18 by Jamalpur GRP. Her legs were broken, an arm fractured, and her face and head bore deep wounds. Her school bag and identity card were recovered from the spot, confirming her identity. Railway police suspect she may have fallen from a train, but the investigation is ongoing.

Amresh Kumar recounted that the family searched for her until 10pm on April 17 before lodging a missing report at Danapur police station. While filing the report, they received a call informing them that Khushi’s body had been found in Jamalpur. “I cannot say how she reached there. I cannot say how she died. But I want the police to find out whether it was murder or accident,” he said, adding that Khushi was a top-performing student.

The police are now interrogating her friend and scanning CCTV footage along Khushi’s route. However, no further trace of her has yet been found. Danapur station in-charge Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj confirmed that an FIR had been filed and said that Jamalpur police had informed them about the discovery of the body. “Investigation is underway,” he said.
