Patna: YouTuber and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manish Kashyap was allegedly assaulted by doctors at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Monday after a dispute over video recording within the facility. According to eyewitnesses and sources close to the matter, Kashyap was confined to a hospital room for nearly three hours and was only released following the intervention of BJP leaders.
Kashyap had accompanied an acquaintance to the hospital as part of a personal matter and began recording videos purportedly highlighting irregularities at the facility. During this process, a disagreement reportedly erupted between Kashyap and a female doctor on duty. The altercation soon escalated, drawing in other hospital staff who opposed his actions.
Doctors allegedly deleted the video footage from Kashyap’s mobile phone. He was subsequently locked in a room and released only after he apologised. Visuals taken after the incident showed injuries on Kashyap’s face. He later left the premises with a companion, Mani Dwivedi.
Supporters of Kashyap gathered outside PMCH shortly after reports of the incident spread. Deputy Superintendent of Police for Patna Sadar, Diksha, stated: “No official complaint has been received. There was some pushing and shoving. Further action will be taken once a complaint is lodged.”
Manish Kashyap joined the BJP in 2024 and had played a visible role during the Jharkhand and Delhi election campaigns. He campaigned for several BJP candidates, including MP Manoj Tiwari in Delhi.
Kashyap has previously faced legal troubles. In 2023, he was accused of spreading misinformation after allegedly sharing a fake video depicting attacks on migrant workers from Bihar in Tamil Nadu. Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) registered an FIR against him. He evaded arrest for several days, prompting multiple police raids.
On March 18 2023, the Bettiah police began seizing his assets in a separate case, after which Kashyap surrendered at the Shikarpur police station. He was subsequently taken into custody by the EOU and jailed. He was granted bail in December 2023.
