Patna: The Bihar cabinet, chaired by chief minister Samrat Choudhary, has approved a series of proposals aimed at strengthening policing and emergency response infrastructure, including the procurement of scooters for women police personnel.
A total of 22 agenda items were cleared during the cabinet meeting, with key decisions taken on mobility support for police and the development of a state-level emergency response system.
Scooters For ‘Police Didi’ Initiative
The cabinet approved the purchase of 1,500 scooters for female police personnel, referred to as “Police Didi”, to enhance their mobility in urban areas.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving law and order, preventing crime, and ensuring the safety of women and girls commuting to schools, colleges and coaching centres.
The scooters will be procured at Rs 1.25 lakh per unit, with a total expenditure of Rs 18.75 crore.
3,200 Motorcycles For Police
In addition, the government has sanctioned the purchase of 3,200 motorcycles for police personnel at a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh per unit, amounting to Rs 48 crore.
The combined allocation for scooters and motorcycles stands at Rs 66.75 crore.
ERSS And Police Data Centre Approved
The cabinet also approved Rs 172.8 crore for the construction of permanent infrastructure for the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and a state police data centre in Patna.
The facility, to be built under the jurisdiction of Rajiv Nagar Police Station, will include multi-storey buildings along with furniture and related infrastructure.
Focus On Modernisation
Officials said the ERSS project is intended to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve coordination within the police system.
The expenditure for the project will be spread across the current and upcoming financial years.
Strengthening Policing And Safety
The decisions reflect the government’s focus on modernising policing infrastructure and improving public safety, particularly for women.
Authorities said enhanced mobility and upgraded infrastructure are expected to improve response time and operational efficiency across the state.
