Patna: The state cabinet on Wednesday decided to develop 11 new satellite townships in the state for which it took a slew of decisions.
In one of the major decisions, the cabinet decided to prohibit the sale and purchase and transfer of land, construction of buildings in the proposed satellite township area which will be notified soon.
There will be no sale and purchase and transfer of land, construction of buildings in these townships area till Master Plan for these cities are prepared.
The cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary decided the names of the 11 townships that will be developed apart from specifying their core area and special area.
The names of the 11 townships are- Patna as Patliputra, Sonepur- Hariharnathpur, Gayaji- Magadh, Darbhanga-Mithila, Munger-Ang, Purnea-Purnea, Saharsa-Koshi, Chhapra-Saran, Bhagalpur-Vikramsheela, Muzaffarpur-Tirhut and Sitamarhi as Sitapuram, Urban Development and Housing Department Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar told reporters here in a post cabinet briefing.
Of the 11 townships, there will be no sale and purchase of land, transfer of land, construction of buildings in the proposed townships of Patna, Sonepur, Gayaji, Darbhanga, Munger, Purnea, Saharsa till March 31, 2027 while the sale and purchase of land, transfer, construction of buildings will be prohibited till June 30, 2027 in the proposed townships of Chhapra, Muzaffarapur, Bhagalpur and Sitamarhi.
Kumar, however, made it clear that the ban could be lifted earlier too if the Master Plan gets prepared at the earliest whereas the ban could be lifted earlier too once the Master Plan is notified the four proposed townships of Chhapra, Muzaffarapur, Bhagalpur and Sitamarhi.
The core area could be spread between 800 acres to 1200 acres in these townships, Kumar said adding that it is the core area in which the state government would start construction first as per Master Plan and could be spread and developed over 10 times of the core area.
It may be noted that the state cabinet had on November 25, 2025 given its nod for developing 11 townships including nine divisional headquarters towns/cities apart from two other townships of Sonepur (Hariharnathpur) in Saran district and Sitamarhi (Sitapuram).
The decision was taken in view of growing population of the major cities, master plan based development, eco friendly cities and increasing requirements of cities.
A total of 22 decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting held today.
