Patna: In a shocking incident near the CDA building under the Gandhi Maidan police station limits, a speeding Creta car allegedly tried to run over traffic policemen during a routine vehicle check. The alert policemen narrowly escaped by jumping aside, and the vehicle was soon intercepted by the police team.
Two individuals in the car — driver Mukul Kumar Sharma, a resident of Masaurhi, and Danendra Samdarshi, a resident of Shastri Nagar — were arrested and handed over to the Gandhi Maidan police station. A case has been registered against them on the complaint of traffic personnel Amit Kumar Jha, who was on duty at the time of the incident.
Case Filed for Attempt to Murder and Obstructing Government Work
The duo has been booked under serious charges including attempt to murder and obstruction of government work, as per the FIR lodged at Gandhi Maidan police station.
Vehicle Check Turns Violent
According to police officials, the incident occurred when the traffic police were conducting routine checks near the CDA building. A black Creta approached the checkpoint at high speed. When signaled to stop, the driver reportedly accelerated and attempted to mow down the policemen. The traffic personnel managed to escape unhurt.
After the failed attempt, the car tried to flee but was quickly stopped by other police personnel in the vicinity. During questioning, the car occupants allegedly argued with the police and were unable to produce valid documents, including a driver’s license. They were also questioned about the use of black film on the windows, which is prohibited under traffic laws.
Pattern of Reckless Defiance
This is the third such incident reported in Patna where vehicle occupants have attempted to run over police officers during routine traffic checks. Authorities expressed serious concern over the rising trend of defiance and aggression against on-duty officials.
Senior officers have assured strict action in the matter and said that such behavior will not be tolerated. Further investigation is underway to determine if the accused have any prior criminal record.
The Gandhi Maidan police station has taken custody of the car and continues to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
