Patna: In a major step towards improving urban cleanliness and civic responsibility, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday launched ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’, a citywide cleanliness drive that will continue till July 15. As part of the campaign, a strict penalty ranging from ₹500 to ₹5,000 will be imposed on individuals found throwing garbage in the open.
PMC officials stated that individuals and institutions spoiling the city’s beauty will not only face fines but may also be blacklisted for repeated violations.
Drive Across All 75 Wards
The campaign has been rolled out across all 75 municipal wards, focusing on awareness, participation, and strict enforcement of cleanliness norms. According to PMC, special programs will be organized at GVP (cleaned garbage sites) to promote hygiene and community involvement.
City residents will be encouraged to take a ‘Cleanliness Oath’, pledging their support to maintain a cleaner Patna. Ward councillors, sanitation workers, and members of the monitoring committee will play a key role in mobilizing public participation.
19 Awareness Programs Daily
Each day, 19 awareness events will be conducted across different parts of the city, featuring participation from ward representatives and local residents. These events aim to educate people on proper waste disposal, the importance of hygiene, and the consequences of littering.
A file photo of garbage-strewn city areas shared by PMC highlights the urgency of the campaign.
Swachh Survekshan Results Expected Soon
The results of the Swachh Survekshan 2025 are expected to be released around July 20 or 22. Patna, which earned only a 1-star rating last year, is now aiming for a 3-star upgrade. City officials are optimistic that recent initiatives will help Patna climb the cleanliness rankings.
A better rating will not only boost civic pride but also enable central and state-level grants for urban development projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
