Patna: Bihar’s cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday approved key initiatives aimed at supporting the state’s artists and modernising agricultural practices.
Under the newly sanctioned Chief Minister Artist Pension Scheme, artists across Bihar will receive a monthly pension of Rs 3,000, a move intended to recognise their cultural contributions and provide financial security. Officials said the scheme reflects the government’s commitment to preserving and nurturing the arts.
Alongside cultural initiatives, the cabinet cleared significant allocations for agricultural development. The government has earmarked Rs 36.35 crore for the Natural Farming Scheme, aimed at promoting chemical-free, sustainable farming practices across the state.
Further, the Krishi Vistar Yojana, designed to support agricultural extension services, will receive Rs 80.99 crore for staff salaries and operational expenses. The cabinet also approved Rs 30.49 crore to establish new soil testing and bio-fertiliser laboratories and upgrade existing facilities under the Soil Health and Fertility Scheme. Another Rs 41.02 crore has been set aside for training programmes under the Agriculture Training Scheme, funding classes, exposure visits and outreach activities to equip farmers with modern techniques.
Officials said the measures signal Bihar’s twin priorities of preserving its cultural heritage while driving forward sustainable rural development.
