Patna: Bihar government has approved the establishment of 28 new traffic posts in Patna and the deployment of 400 additional personnel to strengthen traffic management as the city faces increasing vehicular pressure and ongoing metro construction.
Of the newly assigned personnel, 366 had reported for duty by Saturday, while the remaining 34 are expected to join after returning from leave, according to officials.
New Traffic Posts Planned Along Nehru Path
The new traffic posts will be set up at identified locations across the city, with particular focus on Nehru Path, where metro construction has affected traffic movement.
Officials said the additional posts are intended to improve traffic regulation in construction zones and at major intersections. Increased police deployment is expected to support smoother vehicle movement and reduce congestion on key roads.
Additional Manpower to Strengthen Traffic Police
At present, Patna Traffic Police has 370 officers, including Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, along with nearly 900 traffic personnel deployed across the city.
The newly assigned 400 personnel, including Home Guard members, will enhance the department’s operational capacity. Officials also indicated that more traffic police officers are expected to be inducted in the near future.
Focus on Traffic Diversion and Road Safety
According to officials, the expanded workforce and additional traffic posts will improve the city’s ability to manage diversions and regulate traffic during metro construction.
The increased deployment is also expected to strengthen surveillance on major roads, facilitate crowd management, and improve coordination at busy junctions.
Phased Implementation
The traffic police will implement the new arrangement in phases over the coming days. Officials said the measures are expected to ease congestion, improve road safety, and provide more efficient traffic management for commuters across Patna.
