Motihari: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a significant announcement in Motihari, declaring a resolute commitment to transform Bihar into a developed state, crucial for India’s overall progress. He emphasized that the rapid pace of development currently witnessed in Bihar is a direct result of having supportive governments both at the Centre and in the state.
Drawing a sharp contrast with previous administrations, PM Modi stated that under the 10-year rule of the UPA government, led by Congress and RJD, Bihar received only around Rs 2 lakh crore. He alleged that these governments were “taking revenge” on Nitish Kumar’s administration. “In 2014, you gave me an opportunity to serve at the center,” PM Modi said. “After coming to the center, I also ended that old politics of taking revenge from Bihar. In the last 10 years, in the 10 years of NDA, the amount given for the development of Bihar is many times more than before.”
Bihar as India’s Eastern Powerhouse
The Prime Minister articulated a vision for Bihar mirroring the rapid development seen in Eastern countries globally. “In the 21st century, the world is moving forward very fast. The power that was once only with the western countries, now the dominance and participation of the countries of the east is increasing in it,” he noted. “Just like the eastern countries in the world are moving ahead in the race of development, similarly in India this is the era of our eastern states.”
He linked this vision to Champaran, the historic land that guided Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom movement. “Now the inspiration of this land will also create a new future for Bihar,” he asserted. PM Modi then outlined ambitious parallels: “Our resolution is that in the coming times, just like Mumbai is in western India, Motihari should be known in the east. Just like there are opportunities in Gurugram, similar opportunities should be created in Gaya ji. Like Pune, there should be industrial development in Patna as well. Like Surat, there should be development in Santhal Pargana as well. Like Jaipur, new records of tourism should be made in Jalpaiguri and Jajpur as well. Like Bangalore, the people of Birbhum should also move forward.”
Recalling Past Challenges, Celebrating Present Progress
PM Modi lauded the people of Bihar as “heroes who make the impossible possible,” crediting them for freeing the state from the “shackles of RJD and Congress.” He stated that this liberation has enabled welfare schemes to directly reach the poor. He urged the younger generation to understand the despair that engulfed Bihar two decades ago, where development halted and corruption prevented funds from reaching the needy.
