Patna: The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislature is set to commence tomorrow, Monday, and will continue until July 25. The session is expected to be a lively one, with the opposition preparing to aggressively challenge the government on various fronts.
On the inaugural day, the first supplementary budget will be presented in the Assembly. Additionally, copies of ordinances approved by the Governor will be laid on the table of the House. Following his initial address, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav will announce the formation of the Business Advisory Committee and the names of the presiding members. Reports from various committees are also slated to be presented to the House tomorrow.
Session Agenda and Key Discussions
According to the program released by the Assembly, government bills will be presented and other government work will be conducted on July 22 and 23. The subsequent day, July 24, will be dedicated to the discussion and voting on the first supplementary budget, after which the Appropriation Bill will be presented.
The final day of the session, July 25, will feature discussions on non-official resolutions.
Opposition Poised for Confrontation
The session is widely anticipated to be tumultuous, with the opposition having strategized to corner the government on issues such as law and order and other perceived administrative failures.
In anticipation of this, the government has also prepared its responses. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav has appealed for cooperation from the opposition to ensure the smooth functioning of the House. Echoing this sentiment, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary has affirmed that the government is “ready to answer the opposition’s every query.” The coming days will reveal the intensity of the legislative debates and the government’s ability to navigate the challenges posed by the opposition.
