Patna: Floodwaters from the Ganga, Punpun and Dardha rivers have inundated several areas in Patna district after dams broke at two locations. Although officials said the dams have been repaired, many villages remain submerged.
Water levels stabilised in Gandhi Ghat and Maner on Saturday evening. Devendra Shahi, Additional District Magistrate (Disaster), said all preparations have been completed and the District Emergency Operations Centre in Patna is operational 24 hours. Residents can contact the disaster centre at 0612-2210118.
Many villages in Dhanarua, Daniyawan and Fatuha blocks are under water. Rising levels in the Dhowa and Falgu rivers damaged the Zamindari dam at Sirpatpur in Fatuha block and at Nimmi Silarpur in Daniyawan block, leading to flooding in surrounding villages.
The tal areas of Maner, Danapur, Mokama and Athmalgola blocks have also been flooded. Due to the Ganga’s rise in Danapur, roads leading to Diara villages are submerged, cutting off access for many.
Patna District Magistrate Dr Thiagarajan SM has directed officials to rebuild damaged roads within two hours. In Devdaha panchayat’s Chakjiya Tola, rural connectivity roads were broken in three places. Repair work with soil, sand and broken bricks is underway to make them walkable.
Officials said, according to the Bihar Meteorological Service Centre, rainfall is expected to decrease in the western and southern parts of Bihar over the next two days, bringing hope for an improvement in the flood situation.
