Patna: The Department of Mass Communication at Patna Women’s College, in collaboration with the Media Club, organised a special screening of Aamir Khan’s acclaimed film Sitaare Zameen Par on Saturday in Veronica Auditorium. The event began at 10:00 AM and witnessed active participation from students, faculty, and non-teaching staff across departments.
The film, known for its emotional depth, explores the inner world of children with Autism and Down Syndrome. Aamir Khan plays a basketball coach who recognises the unique abilities of neurodivergent children, helping them gain confidence and purpose.
Speaking at the event, Dr Roma, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, highlighted the film’s powerful social message and urged students to embrace creative expression as a tool for change.
Dr Aparajita Pathak, Assistant Professor in the same department, provided a theoretical and sociological interpretation of the film. She also acknowledged the efforts of Prashant Ravi, coordinator of the Media Club, for facilitating the screening.
The film underlined values such as acceptance, empathy, patience, and creativity, reinforcing the importance of recognising each child’s individuality.
Filmmaker and critic Prashant Ranjan, who attended the screening, remarked, “A film is not just a medium, but a lens through which we view society. Sitaare Zameen Par belongs to all of us – it compels us to reflect.” He also announced that his upcoming film will soon be showcased at the college.
Veteran journalist and Patliputra Cine Society member Sanjeev Kumar encouraged students to explore filmmaking, adding, “Bihar should become a hub of film production. The talents here have the potential to shine on national and international platforms.”
Adding a psychological perspective, Dr Nupur Sinha, Head of the Department of Psychology, said, “Films like these not only foster empathy in society but also teach us that every child is special and deserves to be understood.”
The event succeeded not only in engaging the audience emotionally but also in sparking meaningful dialogue on inclusivity, creativity, and mental health awareness.
