Patna: In a big step towards cleaning the Ganga and protecting the environment, Shubham Kumar, the founder of Being Helper Foundation, has joined hands with the Namami Gange project. The aim is to create a new model of cleanliness and awareness across the country, starting from Patna. The foundation wants to make Patna a role model city by combining public support, clean ghats, and jobs for locals.
For the last seven years, the organisation has been working hard to clean the Ganga and protect nature. These efforts have not only made the Patna ghats look better but have also helped people become more aware of keeping the river and the city clean.
One of the main projects is the Plastic-Free Ganga Abhiyan, where waste from the ghats is collected and given to the city corporation every week. Thousands of people have joined this campaign. Another campaign, Say No to Plastic, educates people in schools and slum areas about how plastic harms the environment. Workshops and posters are used to spread the message.
Other efforts include planting over 1 lakh trees under Mission 1,00,000 Plantation, setting up 42 women’s dress changing rooms across 16 ghats, and organising a big event called Ganga Swachhata Mahakumbh, where more than 5,000 people collected over 1 lakh kilograms of plastic. In the Bottle se Suraksha initiative, over 1.63 lakh plastic bottles were reused to water and protect 50,000 plants.
Shubham Kumar said, “Our goal is not just to clean the ghats, but to involve every citizen. Ganga is our cultural soul, and it is our duty to protect it.” With the slogan “My city, my responsibility,” the foundation is now ready to take this mission across the country.
