Patna: In a rare break from alliance allegiance, Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan launched a blistering attack on Bihar’s Nitish Kumar-led government on Saturday, accusing it of failing to curb a surge in violent crime. Speaking in Patna, Paswan described the administration as “submissive before criminals” and lamented that he felt “ashamed to support a government where crime has become uncontrolled”.
Paswan cited a spate of incidents—including murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping and eve-teasing—as proof of systemic collapse. He warned that unless law and order was urgently restored, Bihar could descend into chaos, likening the situation to playing “with the lives of people”.
Despite his party being part of the BJP‑led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Paswan expressed clear disillusionment. While acknowledging that some crimes might be politically motivated to tarnish the state administration, he maintained that it remained the government’s duty to control the situation, regardless of motive.

Calling the deterioration “beyond understanding,” Paswan said the morale of criminals was now “sky-high,” citing a daylight shooting inside Paras Hospital in Patna as an alarming example of administrative failure.
Paswan also criticised the police, suggesting that its strategy was inexplicable and ineffective. “The administration has either become complicit with criminals or entirely incompetent,” he said. He urgently appealed to the state government to act before the situation deteriorated further.
The JD(U) reacted defensively, with party spokespersons urging critics like Paswan to reform their own alliances before condemning the government. They highlighted the ongoing rollout of over 100 fast-track courts and insisted that Bihar police maintained an upper hand against criminals.
With the Bihar assembly elections on the horizon, Paswan’s remarks mark a growing strain within the NDA and reflect voter anxieties over public safety in the state.
