Patna: The transformation of the Harding Park Terminal at Patna Junction is progressing rapidly, with the railways designing the hub to cater to the city’s growing passenger needs for the next 50 years. Once completed, the terminal will accommodate up to 50,000 passengers daily, with provisions to double that capacity in the future.
In a first for the city, travellers will enter a vast upper-level complex housing waiting areas, ticket counters and modern amenities, before descending directly to the platforms via lifts, escalators and a travelator. This elevated concourse system will be replicated across all platforms at the terminal.
According to officials from the Danapur Railway Division, the project is currently in its land-levelling phase, with more than six JCB machines deployed on site. The plan involves an initial underground floor, followed by the construction of two additional levels.
The design incorporates 10 lifts, six escalators and one travelator to connect the platforms with the entry and exit points, ensuring congestion-free movement. A multi-purpose commercial tower is also planned, featuring multi-level car parking, corner shops and a roof plaza. The terminal’s architecture will draw inspiration from Bihar’s cultural heritage, blending tradition with modern infrastructure.
