Patna: The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Patna processed around 400,000 passport applications in 2024, officials have said. From May 12, the Ministry of External Affairs began issuing chip-embedded passports at the Patna RPO, in line with a nationwide rollout. With demand rising at Post Office Passport Seva Kendras and no such centre currently available in Sheikhpura, the RPO has announced that it will host a Passport Seva Mobile Van Camp in the district for the first time.
The camp will be inaugurated on September 16 at 11am by Patna’s regional passport officer, Swadha Rizvi, alongside Sheikhpura district officer Arif Ahsan, at the Information and Public Relations Office complex.
Since April 2024, 10 such mobile passport camps have been organised in Bihar, in districts including Siwan, Gopalganj, Purnia, Bagaha and Lakhisarai. Sheikhpura will be the 11th.
Applications for fresh passports and re-issues will be accepted, with 55 appointment slots made available daily. Applicants are required to register and pay fees online at passportindia.gov.in, then attend the camp in person with original documents and self-attested copies for verification.
The RPO has clarified that applications for police clearance certificates (PCCs), pending cases, or those without prior online appointments will not be considered.
