Patna: The Bihar State Child Labour Commission has urged tougher measures and greater inter-departmental coordination to address the persistent issue of child labour in the state.
At its second meeting, held at the Pratibimb Auditorium, Niyojan Bhawan, under the chairmanship of Ashok Kumar, the commission directed various government departments to provide a list of schemes directly or indirectly linked to child welfare and child labour eradication.
Vice Chairman Arvind Kumar Singh suggested the creation of a special committee that would bring together multiple departments, including Labour Resources, Social Welfare, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare, Education, Road Construction, Railways and the Border Security Force, to develop a joint strategy.
Labour Commissioner Rajesh Bharti underlined that a permanent solution to the crisis lies in stronger collaboration between departments. Chairman Ashok Kumar stressed the importance of a widespread awareness drive using social media and newspapers to shift public attitudes and mobilise action against child labour.
The commission has also strengthened its complaint system, allowing citizens to report child labour cases directly. Reports can be submitted via WhatsApp on 94712 29133 or through the Labour Resources Department’s toll-free number 1800-296-5656 by sharing details such as photographs and addresses.
