Patna: The people of Patna will soon get a modern and fast transport option as the Patna Metro is ready to begin operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the city’s first metro service on September 29, marking a big milestone for Bihar’s capital. This will be PM Modi’s eighth visit to the state this election year. The metro will run daily for 14 hours, giving commuters a reliable way to move across the city.
In the first phase, metro trains will operate between three important stations — New Patliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile and Bhootnath. Officials said that three elevated stations and a depot are now ready, and finishing work on the three-coach metro trains is complete. Each coach has space for about 300 passengers, which means nearly 900 people can travel in a single train at a time. Coaches are fitted with modern safety features, including 360-degree CCTV cameras and an emergency red button for passengers to connect with the driver during any emergency.
Five stations have already been completed — New Patliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi — but only three will be operational for now. The metro service is expected to make travel easier, faster and safer for thousands of people every day. Officials believe that it will also help reduce traffic jams and pollution in the city by encouraging people to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
Security arrangements have been strengthened for the launch. The Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) will be responsible for maintaining order and safety at all stations. Passengers will need to go through metal detectors and baggage scanners before entering station premises. Authorities have said that these steps are aimed at ensuring a smooth and secure travel experience for everyone using the metro.
