Patna: Bihar Museum will host a landmark cultural event this week as Tumar, a celebrated 12-member all-girls dance ensemble from Kazakhstan, performs in Patna for the first time. The group, known internationally for its striking blend of Kazakh folk and modern choreography, will take the stage at the museum’s amphitheatre on October 4 as part of the ongoing Biennale and the 9th India International Folk Festival organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
“This visit will promote cultural exchange between the rich heritage of Kazakhstan and Bihar, strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Kazakhstan,” said Swadha Rizvi, ICCR Regional Director, Patna.
The Tumar ensemble, founded in 2018 under the leadership of Akereke Kairatovna Musalimova, has won dozens of international awards across Europe and Asia for its innovative productions, which combine high technical skill, elaborate scenography, and authentic costumes with deep respect for Kazakh tradition.

The troupe will perform in other parts of India, including Jharkhand, under ICCR’s regional office in Patna. Dignitaries including Bihar Museum Director General Anjani Kumar Singh and ICCR’s Swadha Rizvi will attend the Patna performance.
Known for works such as Toybastar and Cats and Mouse, Tumar has collected multiple grand prix titles at major festivals, including recent honours in Batumi, Istanbul, and Astana. Their Patna show will mark a rare opportunity for Indian audiences to witness one of Central Asia’s leading folk ensembles.
