Patna: Bihar is preparing to ease the struggle of traffic jams in several cities by building nine new bypasses connected to the national highway network. The Road Construction Department has confirmed that work on these projects is in the final stages. Once complete, people travelling long distances will no longer have to pass through crowded city roads, and residents will finally get relief from daily congestion. The move is part of a wider plan by the state government to improve road connectivity and reduce pressure on city routes.
The government had earlier set a target of constructing 120 bypasses across Bihar to make travel smoother. Many of these projects were planned to help drivers avoid busy market areas and narrow city lanes that often caused long traffic jams. In the latest announcement, nine new bypasses will be built in Supaul, Arwal, Madhepura and Aurangabad districts. Among these, Supaul will get a bypass on NH 327E, with additional ones in Pipra and Triveniganj on the same route. Singheshwar will see a bypass on NH 106, while Arwal, Daudnagar and Aurangabad will have new routes on NH 98. Dumraon and Dawath will get bypasses along NH 120.
So far, 14 bypasses have already been completed and are in use. These include important stretches such as the Chhapra bypass on NH 19, Siwan and Gopalganj on NH 85, Katihar on NH 131A, and Gayaji, Jehanabad and Masaurhi on NH 83. Other completed projects include Asthawan and Barbigha on NH 82, Sitamarhi and Jaynagar on NH 104, Daniawan and Barh on NH 30A, and the Bhagalpur bypass on NH 80. These roads are already helping both local residents and travellers by cutting travel time and reducing heavy traffic in town areas.
Seventeen more bypasses are currently under construction across Bihar, covering cities and towns on different highways. These include projects in Revilganj, Raniganj, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Katoria, Banka, Panjwara, Jhajha and several others. Two major bypasses are also being built on NH 319 and NH 319A, connecting Ara and Buxar-Chausa. Officials have said that many of these projects are close to completion and are expected to be ready this year. Once finished, the network of bypasses will change the way people travel across Bihar, offering smoother journeys, less congestion, and faster connections between key cities.
