Patna: Bhojpuri actor and BJP leader Pawan Singh has publicly addressed the ongoing dispute with his wife, Jyoti Singh, amid mounting political speculation ahead of assembly elections. Speaking for the first time since the controversy surfaced, Singh described the personal matter as being unfairly politicised.
“No one stopped Jyoti from coming home, but why wasn’t this affection shown six or four months ago? Why now, just a month before the elections? How low can someone stoop to become an MLA?” Singh said, referring to his wife. He added, “Family matters happen in the room, not on camera.”
Singh revealed that his divorce case with Jyoti Singh is still pending in court, alongside a maintenance petition filed by Jyoti in Arrah. He claimed that Jyoti’s father, Rambabu Singh, had once asked him to “make my daughter an MLA, and then leave her if you want,” a proposal Singh said he refused.
The actor also reflected on the broader implications of his situation. “Relationships have been made a spectacle in politics. I cannot overstep my bounds. I am 40 years old, a human being, not just a power star. Listening to women brings tears, but no one sees the pain of a man,” he said.
Singh, who joined the BJP in 2017 but contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections independently from Karakat, has recently met with BJP President JP Nadda and Union Minister Amit Shah. Reports suggest the party may field him as a candidate from Arrah or Karakat in the upcoming assembly elections.
In a separate development, Singh has been granted Y-plus security by the central government, travelling with 11 security personnel. The move follows a series of threats, including social media harassment after he touched the waist of actress Anjali Raghav at a Lucknow event and a viral threat video in September from associates of Baba Khan. Singh apologised to her, who has since forgiven him.
Speaking emotionally, Singh urged the public and political observers to treat his marital dispute as a private matter rather than a political spectacle. “Those turning this controversy into a political platform are merely staging a show,” he said.
