Patna: The Jan Suraaj Party faced internal unrest on Thursday after announcing its first list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The party unveiled 51 names at its Patna office, prompting more than a dozen leaders, reportedly angered at being denied tickets, to stage a noisy protest. Senior party officials intervened to calm the demonstrators.
Prashant Kishor described the incident as a “family matter,” acknowledging that disappointment over denied tickets was natural. He emphasised that the party’s ethos rejected influence from money or muscle power, and highlighted the contributions of the broader team working to establish Jan Suraaj across the state. “Those who have not received tickets will still be taken along by the Jan Suraaj Party and will be given positions based on their qualifications,” he said.
Jan Suraaj Party General Secretary Kishore Kumar Munna also addressed the unrest, affirming that the disgruntled candidates’ concerns were legitimate. “Their anger is understandable,” he said, “but the party has its limits. Not everyone can be given tickets.”
The party, which aims to contest all 243 assembly seats in Bihar, announced candidates for 51 constituencies in the first round. Among those selected were senior lawyer YV Giri from Manjhi, former DG RK Mishra from Darbhanga, Kishore Kumar from Saharsa, Karpoori Thakur’s granddaughter Jagriti from Morwa, and RCP Singh’s daughter Lata Singh from Asthawan.
