Patna: On Thursday, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital conducted free eye screenings for roughly 10,000 people across Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, marking World Sight Day with one of its largest outreach initiatives to date.
The Mastichak-based hospital organised around 100 free eye screening camps, including at major railway stations such as Patna Junction, Danapur, Patliputra, Rajendra Nagar, and Hajipur. Additional screenings were held at all of Akhand Jyoti’s surgical centres and 43 vision centres across the region.
Mrityunjay Tiwari, Chief Executive Officer of Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, highlighted that the hospital aims to screen 12 million people over the next five years. “Hidden eye diseases can only be detected through eye screenings for as many people as possible,” he said.

The initiative also launched the hospital’s Healthy Eyes Screening Campaign in Patna, with Thursday’s camps marking the first major step of the campaign. A notable feature of the screenings was the use of AI-based Fundus on Phone (FOP) technology, which allows rapid, one-minute detection of glaucoma and retinal diseases. Individuals over the age of 40 were prioritised for glaucoma checks, and each participant received an eye health card after screening.
Vivek Vikas, Chief Public Relations Officer of Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, noted the support provided by local organisations: the Lions Club assisted at Patna Junction, while the Sonpur Railway Division Hospital helped at Hajipur station. The railway administration also facilitated the organisation of camps across five stations in the Danapur and Sonpur divisions of East Central Railway. Approximately 1,500 people were screened at these stations, including a significant number of railway officials and employees.
With these initiatives, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital reinforced its commitment to providing world-class eye care and raising awareness about the importance of regular eye screenings.
