Jamui: Shreyasi Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Jamui Assembly constituency, has reportedly received death threats and faced attempts to tarnish her reputation on social media. Objectionable posts and manipulated images of Singh have circulated on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, raising concerns over online harassment and misuse of personal information.
Singh’s personal assistant, Milton Singh, filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), naming three social media handles allegedly involved in the activity. According to the complaint, fake accounts created using Singh’s name and photograph have been sharing misleading and indecent content, aimed at misleading the public and damaging her personal and political image.
“Such actions are not only cybercrimes but also attacks on democratic values,” Milton Singh said. The incident has sparked outrage among local BJP supporters and residents, who have called for swift identification and prosecution of those responsible.
The Cyber DSP confirmed receipt of the complaint and said an investigation is underway. Police are using technical measures to trace the operators of the implicated accounts. Authorities have emphasised that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in threatening or defaming public figures online.
