Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the emergency unit building of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Friday to check the progress of ongoing construction and the medical services available for patients. During the inspection, he spoke with hospital officials and asked detailed questions about the treatment facilities, equipment and services being provided to people who come to the emergency unit.
The Chief Minister inspected every major section of the building. He went to the third floor to review the General Medicine OPD, Dental OPD, and Gynecology and Obstetrics OPD. From there, he moved to the upper floors and examined facilities such as the modular operation theatres, Intensive Care Unit, oxygen pipeline system, consultation rooms and other important medical services. Later, he reached the top floor to check the air ambulance landing area and asked about the status of the work still in progress.
Nitish Kumar instructed the officers to speed up the remaining construction work and ensure that the project is completed within the fixed time. He stressed that the quality of construction should not be compromised under any circumstances and safety arrangements must be strong. He also directed that the boundary wall around the air ambulance landing area should be high enough so that there is no risk to patients or staff.
The redevelopment of PMCH is a major government project. The foundation stone was laid by the Chief Minister in February 2021. Several facilities have already become operational, including the Combined Ultrasound and Biochemical Screening block, the Bihar State Blood Bank, nurses’ and girls’ hostels, and two new towers. The newly built Tower 01-02 includes parking for 120 four-wheelers and two-wheelers, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray services, as well as multiple departments like ENT IPD, Medicine IPD, Dermatology IPD, Cardiology and Pediatrics. More services, such as the Labour Room, NICU, ICU and 22 modular operation theatres, will also start soon.
Senior officials of the state government and PMCH administration were present during the inspection. These included Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Health Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan S.M., Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, and Superintendent of PMCH Dr I.S. Thakur. Doctors and other senior officers were also present. The state government hopes that once the redevelopment is completed, PMCH will have modern facilities equal to India’s top hospitals and will provide faster and better medical treatment to the public.
