Buxar: In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, Buxar Police have arrested 18 members of a suspected interstate cyber fraud network that allegedly duped people through unauthorized online gaming and betting applications. The arrests were made after a raid on a rented house near ICICI Bank on PP Road, officials said on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shubham Arya, addressing a press conference at Buxar City Police Station, said the operation was launched following a specific tip-off about a large-scale financial fraud racket targeting users through fake gaming apps.
According to police, the accused designed fraudulent gaming applications and circulated them via platforms such as Telegram. Victims were encouraged to invest money after registering on these apps, only to have their bank accounts gradually emptied.
“Investigations revealed the gang was earning around Rs 4 to Rs 5 lakh every day through these scams. The defrauded funds were transferred to several different accounts,” SP Arya said. Police are now probing the money laundering aspects of the operation.
The gang reportedly consisted of youths recruited from different states. Those arrested hail from Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and the Kaimur, Saran, Siwan, Banka and Rohtas districts of Bihar.
During the raid, police seized 82 ATM cards, nine active bank passbooks, five cheque books and several mobile devices linked to the illegal transactions. Authorities said the gang had access to numerous bank accounts that had been used recently, raising further suspicion of identity theft and forged documentation.
A case has been registered at the Cyber Police Station under FIR number 55/25. The SP said the network is widespread, and efforts are underway to trace other members operating from different locations.
Describing the accused as part of a well-organized syndicate, Arya identified Ajit Kumar Jaiswal and Aman Kumar Jaiswal as the key masterminds who brought in youths from other states to execute fraudulent operations from a single room.
“This action will play a crucial role in curbing rising cases of cyber fraud,” SP Arya added, assuring that continuous surveillance and strict measures are being taken to dismantle similar networks active in the region.
The arrested individuals include Ajit Kumar Jaiswal, Ramesh Kumar Jaiswal and Aman Kumar Jaiswal (Kaimur); Deepak Kumar and Satendra Kumar (Saran); Hema Kumar and Dashrath Bagh (Chhattisgarh); Mukesh Kumar Jaiswal, Anand Yadav, and Amresh Kumar (Chandauli, UP); Anil Kumar (Varanasi, UP); Rajesh Jaiswal and Amar Bahadur (Ayodhya, UP); Rahul Kumar (Siwan, Bihar); Gaurav Tandi (Odisha); and Mumtaz Alam (Rohtas, Bihar), along with Sanjay Yadav and Kailash Yadav from Banka district.
Police say further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
