Patna: A late-night liquor party in Patna ended in a shocking tragedy when a quarrel between friends escalated into violence, leading to the death of a 25-year-old woman. The incident took place on Monday night in the Rajiv Nagar area of the city, despite Bihar’s ongoing ban on alcohol. According to the police, the group of men had gathered to drink together when an argument broke out, turning the gathering into a violent confrontation.
The victim has been identified as Priyanka Kumari, originally from Samastipur district. She had been living in a rented house in Rajiv Nagar with her husband, Meghnath Sah, and their seven-year-old child for the past seven years. Police reports say that Meghnath and his friends were drinking together when they got into a dispute and began shouting and insulting one another. In the middle of the heated exchange, the physical fight escalated and Priyanka became the target of the anger.
During the assault, the husband’s friends attacked Priyanka with bricks, causing fatal injuries. By the time neighbours rushed to the spot, the attackers had already fled. Residents of the area told police they heard cries coming from the house but did not realise the severity of the situation until they discovered that the young woman was lying badly injured. Priyanka died before she could be taken to a hospital.
Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the absconding suspects. Officers say multiple teams have been deployed to track them down and early inquiries are focused on identifying the exact roles of each person present during the liquor party. The incident has triggered anger among residents, not only because of the brutality of the attack but also because it happened during a drinking session in a state where alcohol remains banned. Locals are now calling for stricter enforcement to stop illegal liquor activities that continue to operate in residential areas across the capital.
