Chhapra/Patna: Police in Saran district have begun an investigation after two teenagers were found dead in a house in Moti Chhapra village under the Sahajitpur police station area on Wednesday night. The deaths of the 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy have caused shock and grief across the community.
The teenagers were identified as Anjali Kumari, daughter of Jailal Prasad, and Sanis Mahato, son of Ganpat Mahato. Sanis had been living in the village at his maternal grandmother’s home, where his father and elder brother also stayed. Both teenagers attended the same school and lived in neighbouring houses. Family members told police the two were close, though relatives were not at home at the time of the incident.
According to initial accounts, the girl’s grandmother returned home in the evening to find Anjali’s room locked from the inside. After repeated calls went unanswered, her grandfather opened the door and discovered the two teenagers unresponsive. Neighbours were alerted, and the police were informed shortly afterwards.
Police and a forensic team examined the room and collected evidence, including items found near the scene. Officers said a detailed forensic analysis is underway to establish the sequence of events.
The girl had been living with her elderly grandparents; her father works in a crockery factory in Mumbai and her mother had travelled to Delhi for a family event. Sanis’s father told police he had been working in the fields through the day and learned of the deaths upon returning home.
Given the sensitivity of the case, the district administration convened a three-member medical board to conduct postmortems at Chhapra Sadar Hospital. Police said the cause of death would be confirmed after the report is received.
A senior officer said both families are being questioned and that all angles are being examined. An atmosphere of grief and distress prevails in the village as investigations continue.
