Patna: Bihar’s first state-of-the-art cybersecurity laboratory is now operational in Patna, marking a significant step in the state’s plans to strengthen digital security and technical capacity. Developed by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), the lab will serve as a training, research and support centre for students, experts and government agencies.
The facility, described as one of the most advanced cybersecurity labs in eastern India, is equipped with high-end tools designed to tackle emerging digital threats. Officials say the new centre will help place Bihar more prominently on the national cybersecurity map and support the broader Digital India initiative.
The laboratory was inaugurated by S Krishnan, Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Bihar’s IT Secretary, Abhay Kumar Singh, was also present. The project was overseen by NIELIT Director General Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi, with operational leadership from Dr Nitin Puri, Executive Director of the Patna centre.

According to NIELIT, the new lab is expected to bring several benefits to the state. It will offer advanced training to young people seeking careers in cybersecurity and assist government departments and institutions in developing stronger digital security systems. Officials also expect the centre to enhance technical capabilities for cybercrime prevention, support innovation for startups and researchers, and strengthen Bihar’s digital infrastructure.
Experts say the Patna lab will not only offer specialised training but also help build local capacity to respond to cyberattacks — a growing concern as digital crime increases across India. Until now, students often had to travel outside the state or abroad for high-level cybersecurity training.
