Patna: Cold conditions have steadily intensified across Bihar since the start of December, and the chill is expected to deepen over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast westerly winds blowing at 12–15 kmph on December 5 and 6, which may pull down night temperatures further.
According to meteorologists, the minimum temperature in several districts could drop by 2–4 degrees Celsius below normal. Night conditions are likely to turn colder, especially in parts of northern and southwestern Bihar.
Over the past 24 hours, fog covered more than 10 cities including Patna, Begusarai, Kishanganj, Bettiah, Bagaha, and Gopalganj. Bhagalpur recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 9.9°C, making it the coldest district in the state on Wednesday. In many areas, temperatures hovered around 10°C early in the morning.
The average minimum temperature across the state currently ranges between 9.9°C and 17°C. Northwestern districts such as Sitamarhi, West Champaran, Shivhar, and Darbhanga reported minimum temperatures near 10°C. At the same time, Gaya, Kaimur, Rohtas, and Aurangabad are experiencing a sharper drop in night temperatures, leading to increased discomfort among residents.
Weather experts say there is no immediate threat of a cold wave; however, a gradual decline in temperature will continue. Morning fog will persist, but the likelihood of dense fog disrupting visibility remains low.
Forecast for Coming Days
The IMD expects the fall in minimum temperatures to continue for the next 3–4 days. Cold conditions will be more prominent during late evenings and mornings. Sunshine during daytime may provide temporary relief to residents before the chill intensifies again after sunset.
Patna Outlook
The capital is also likely to feel the impact of westerly winds, particularly on Friday and Saturday. The minimum temperature in Patna is expected to remain between 11°C and 13°C. Light fog is predicted, but officials say there will be no major impact on flight or train operations.
The state government has advised people—especially the elderly and children—to take precautions during early morning and night hours as temperatures continue to drop.
