Muzaffarpur/Patna: Criminals carried out a brazen daylight robbery in Muzaffarpur on Saturday morning, looting Rs 17 lakh at gunpoint from an employee of a microfinance company near a busy road junction.
The incident occurred around 9am near the Kaparpura railway crossing on the new four-lane road, close to the Lalu Rabri intersection, triggering panic among commuters and local residents.
The victim, identified as Vikram Kumar, told police he was carrying Rs 17 lakh in cash collected from the Jamalabad and Chandni Chowk areas for onward distribution. He said two men on a black motorcycle, both wearing helmets, approached him and snatched the bag containing the cash at gunpoint before fleeing towards Motipur.
“No shots were fired, but they threatened me with a firearm and took the bag,” Kumar said in his statement to the police.
Police launch search, examine cash trail
Soon after the incident was reported, SDPO West Suchitra Kumari reached the spot with a police team. Officers questioned the victim, set up roadblocks in the surrounding areas and began examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby routes.
“According to preliminary information, two criminals on a motorcycle looted Rs 17 lakh from a microfinance company employee in the Kanti police station area,” Kumari said. She added that police were also investigating why the company or its employee had not informed the authorities in advance while transporting such a large amount of cash.
Officials said documents related to the microfinance firm and details of the cash transactions were being verified as part of the investigation.
No arrests had been made by the time of filing this report, and police said efforts were under way to identify and trace the suspects.
