Patna: The Bihar government has announced a major initiative to support the state’s fishing community, offering subsidies of up to 90% on boats and nets under the newly launched Boat and Net Package Distribution Scheme for the 2025-26 financial year. Eligible fishermen can apply online by December 31 via the Department website: https://fisheries.bihar.gov.in/ .
The scheme targets members of state-level fisheries cooperatives and traditional fishermen, with priority given to women and beneficiaries from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Officials said the aim is to strengthen economic self-reliance among marginalised sections of society.
Applicants are required to provide personal and banking details, Aadhaar information, and proof of fishing activities for their application to be considered valid. Each individual or family can avail of only one of the following packages: a Fishing Wooden Boat Package (unit cost Rs. 1,24,400), a Fishing FRP Boat Package (Rs. 1,54,400), or a Cast Net Package (Rs. 16,700).
Beneficiary selection will be conducted by a district-level committee chaired by the Deputy Director of Fisheries, with officials emphasising a transparent and rule-based process. The scheme is available across all districts in Bihar, allowing a wide section of the fishing community to benefit.
The government expects the initiative to enhance fishermen’s productivity, increase income, and boost fish production across the state. Interested applicants can contact their local fisheries office for more information.
