Patna: Sanjay Saraogi, a six-time MLA from Darbhanga, has been named the new president of the Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), taking over from Dilip Jaiswal. The handover ceremony at the party office saw the presence of senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha.
Ahead of assuming office, Saraogi was greeted with an elaborate roadshow along Bailey Road, starting from the Ambedkar statue to the BJP headquarters. Thousands of party workers lined the streets, waving flags, while women welcomed him by blowing conch shells and showering flowers. The procession included elephants, camels, horses, and a marching band, drawing large crowds in the city.

Addressing supporters, Saraogi said: “I will honestly fulfill the responsibility of the organisation. My endeavour will be to ensure that the voices of the party workers reach the government.”
The 55-year-old leader, who belongs to the Vaishya community, has been a prominent face in Bihar politics and enjoys considerable support among the business community. He first won the Darbhanga Nagar assembly seat in 2005, retaining it in the subsequent elections of November 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. Last year, he served as a minister for the first time following a cabinet expansion in the Nitish Kumar government.
With this appointment, Saraogi will now oversee the BJP’s organisational work in Bihar, strengthening the party’s presence in the politically significant Mithilanchal region.
